In our last newsletter, we shared Mirian's High School graduation picture and promised to tell you more about her incredible journey because of you.
Because of donors like you, Mirian had a safe place to go after fleeing abuse.
Mirian joined Malta House in 2019 with her two-week-old son. She had just traveled from Guatemala after fleeing abuse and was looking to establish a life safely here in the US. From the beginning, Mirian focused on doing her best for herself and her newborn child. With little English skills, she began taking English as a Second Language (ESL) courses and enrolled as a full-time student at Norwalk High School.
Mirian began achieving high honors and eventually took morning and evening classes because she believed education would be the key to her success and her family's stability. On the weekends, Mirian worked odd jobs, including as a helper at a pizzeria and an assistant at a local cleaning company. Through her sacrifices, Mirian could finish school and accrue substantial savings.
She received her diploma on June 16th and reunited with her family in a stable home near Malta House. Mirian is grateful for the support she received at Malta House, as her son is approaching pre-school age. Mirian enrolled in summer classes at Norwalk Community College (NCC) and is hopeful that she will continue towards a brighter future for her family.
All this is because you were here to show Mirian she was not alone. Thank you!
