February 1, 2019
Dear Friend:
We are pleased to share with you a major step in achieving our current strategic plan’s call for expanding services to more mothers and their babies. We are close to concluding and announcing a long-term arrangement with the Diocese of Bridgeport to lease a larger and more functional building in Norwalk. This will require a strong local executive and continued cultivation of the relationships with the community and agencies who can partner with us in providing services to our mothers and babies.
As you may recall, in mid-2017 Malta House entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Good Counsel Homes with the intent to negotiate a formal operating agreement under which Good Counsel would be the ‘operator’ of Malta House, providing executive and programmatic leadership for our home. However, the Malta House Board voted in November 2018 to re-establish direct oversight of the home in order to have more local, direct control of operations and fund development, and to capitalize on the opportunities for local partnerships and relationships. Malta House will continue to collaborate with Good Counsel in many ways. Good Counsel’s President, Chris Bell, will continue to serve on the Malta House Board and to be a dear friend. We will continue to exchange best practices, and have agreed to revisit the possibility of a closer collaboration with Good Counsel in 2021.
We are also pleased to share with you that, effective January 1, 2019, the Board has named Carey Dougherty Executive Director of Malta House. Carey has been our Director of Development & Strategy since March 2017. Carey’s commitment to our mission, leadership skills, and her love and care for the women and babies we serve are evident in everything she does. We are delighted that Carey has agreed to continue with us as we begin our 21st year providing a nurturing home environment, support services and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children.
We are excited as we begin this next chapter in our history and continue to work toward our goal of increasing awareness of the dignity of God-given life by expanding the number of families we serve and the services we provide to support long-term growth for our mothers and their children. We hope to announce more of the details about our new home and expansion plans in the next few months. Please know that your prayers and support are what have allowed us to serve over 500 mothers and their babies over the last 20 years. Moving forward, we look forward to your ongoing support, and ask that you keep the Malta House family in your prayers, as you will continue to be in ours.
Sincerely,
Kim Petrone
