On Monday June 3rd I presided over my last Malta House Board meeting as Board Chair. Much to the surprise of some (including my husband), I really meant it when I said that I was not going to stay on as Chair when my term expired on June 30. While I have enjoyed every minute of my 9 years as Chair (well, almost every), Malta House is more than ready for new leadership. Because the mission of Malta House is near and dear to my heart and because there is still lots to be done, I will remain on the Board and have agreed to chair the development committee during this next fiscal year.
As for that new leadership — Michael O’Rourke has agreed to assume the position of Acting Chair until a new Board Chair is identified. Michael will be supported primarily by our 2 Vice Chairs as well as the other officers and the committee
chairs — a diverse and talented group of people.
As I have said many times before, it has been an honor and a privilege to be part of this organization and to work with such dedicated, caring people – the staff, volunteers, donors, and of course the current and former Board members that I’ve been blessed to work with.
Malta House truly is a unique place and one that I am thankful to be part of. My life is so much richer because of it. The difference we’re making in the lives of the moms and babies who pass through our doors is undeniable. To see the transformation in the women during their stay with us makes it all worthwhile — they come to Malta House scared and alone and leave confident and hopeful for their future and their baby’s future.
Please pray for the success of Malta House and for the moms — they are the true heroes — and their babies. I also ask that you consider how you might be of service to Malta House (or any non-profit). While it may sound corny, it really is true — it is in giving that you receive.
In closing, I’d like to share one of my favorite inspirational quotes, one that certainly helped me during my tenure: The WILL of God will never take you where the GRACE of God will not support you.
God bless you and yours,
Kim Petrone
